''... I'm blessed to be alive, now all I want to do is help ...''
First – I want to say thank you. Thank you to everyone that has helped and supported me. I honestly could not ask for better friends and family. I’m lucky to have such a supportive network of people in my life.
I went through quite an ordeal on Cypress Mountain in December…most of you know the story! 3 full days with literally no food, no sleep, cold, wet and lost. I suffered physically and mentally, lost 18 lbs and still have nerve damage to my fingers and toes. I’m lucky to be alive and I am very grateful.
Over the last 2 months I have had plenty of time to truly reflect on my experience. It’s vital to highlight and acknowledge one thing from those few days on Cypress Mountain – The North Shore Search and Rescue Team (NSR). They risked their lives to save me, and for that, I owe them my life. They are true heroes.
I want to do something special for them as they deserve much more than they ever actually receive. They work tirelessly and unselfishly saving the lives of people that they don’t know. Their whole team deserves recognition for the sacrifices they make every day. They are “givers”, not “takers”. I owe this to them. I can’t do this alone, so I really need your help.
The North Shore Search and Rescue Team is a volunteer community-based organization and they are funded through government and sponsors, but depend heavily on donations to help cover immediate operational, maintenance and training needs. I would like to do my very best to help contribute to the organization’s financial requirements as a token of deep gratitude for what they did for me.
So, I am organizing a fund-raising event onSaturday, June 29th, 2013 at the Arena Jean-Marc Lalonde in Rockland, to help raise money for NSR. We’ll be holding a Out of Breath Ball Hockey Tournament. My goal is to have 4-on-4 teams and it will be an all day event. We’ll also have a party at the end of the day for all the participants, as well as anyone else who wants to attend (if you played or not). All proceeds will be given directly to NSR. They are a great team and I believe we can help make a difference.
